Suite101 spoke with second runner-up Robert Roldan in a November 10th phone interview before the 2010 SYTYCD Live Tour at HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA.

Suite101 was anxious to know much more than what appears on Robert’s official bio, which states simply, “Robert Roldan took his first Hip Hop class at age 11. After graduating from high school, he performed with the “Bad Boys of Dance” for a year and a half. In addition to dance, he enjoys singing, acting and fashion. The charismatic dancer was pleased to answer these questions.

Suite 101: What was the most difficult dance you were asked to perform during the Season 7 TV show?

RR: "It would be a toss-up between the Argentine tango, performed with All-Star Anya (Garnis) in my second week, and the quick step with Ashley Galvan.

I was not trained in ballroom, so it was hard to pick up the tango so early in the season. The quick step was also difficult to learn, because the correct carriage of the upper body and arms is crucial. You have to be practically attached to your partner or it’s all over.”

Suite 101: Which of the dances that you will perform tonight was the most meaningful to you?

RR: "The contemporary piece 'Fix You,' (Coldplay) choreographed by Travis Wall as a tribute to his mother’s illness. I related to the story through Travis’s emotions, and learning the dance was like putting puzzle pieces together. That dance will always remain memorable because of the way that it touched me."

Suite 101: What is the best thing about the tour?

RR: "The tour is like a dream come true; all I expected and more. It’s like nothing I’ve ever felt before. Being on the TV show is like being in a bubble, but then you go out on tour and perform in front of two or three thousand people! I was so overwhelmed at the first show, and it’s never gotten old.”

Suite 101: Is there any downside to being on the tour?

RR: "Yes, getting on the bus to leave each city after the show and arriving at the new city at 3 A.M. We only have a few hours to rest before it’s time to go to the new venue, but excitement sets in when we get on stage to do the show. It’s so important that we make sure to take care of our bodies.”

Suite 101: What happens for you after the tour is over?

RR: "I’ll stay in L.A. where I live and continue to dance and act.”

He has already done commercial work with Macy’s Stars of Dance on Dancing with the Stars thanks to Travis Wall, and is signed with the Bloc agency of Los Angeles, New York and Atlanta.

Suite101 concluded the interview with Robert Roldan by wishing him future success. His growth in all the dance forms each week, coupled with his warmth, charisma and movie-star good looks should assure him the flourishing career he deserves.

So You Think You Can Dance was created by Simon Fuller and Nigel Lythgoe and appears through 19 Entertainment Ltd. and dick clark productions. The Fox network series is executive-produced by Simon Fuller, Nigel Lythgoe and Barry Adelman.

The 40-city tour began on September 19th in New Orleans, Louisiana and concludes on November 17th in Glendale, Arizona.
